When to Go

Lisbon is a charming city just 6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Weather is generally quite pleasant year-round, although many tourists prefer to visit during the summer months when the beach season is in full swing and ports all along the Mediterranean coast are bustling with activity.

Lisbon’s main cruise season runs from March through October. It tends to get hot and humid at the peak of the summer, and you’ll encounter larger crowds this time of year, but there are considerably less tourists in Lisbon than in other European destinations.

To avoid the crowds and hot temperatures, consider traveling in the shoulder seasons in the spring (March and April) or fall (September and October). The temperatures are still comfortable during these months -- average temperatures are in the 60’s and 70’s – but the number of people visiting the sites and packing the beaches will be greatly reduced.
